CALISTA "LACUNA" ALESIO:
A survivor of a deadly secret. Her secret isn't her boyfriend was the school shooter--people actually think she was in on it despite her name being cleared by police. It's not that she still grieves for him, and blames his victims--whether she did or not, people would assume it anyway. Her secret? She has the ability to plunge everyone into a pit of everlasting darkness--and she's been considering doing just that.
NAME: |
Calista "Lacuna" Alesio Her father gave her her name. Calista only lets close friends and family call her Calista because it sounds too formal, too personal, so overall prefers to be called Callie. "Lacuna" is her mutant name that she gave herself in part because of her favorite band, Lacuna Coil, and because her powers are like an icy lake on a moonless night. |

CLOTHING:
GENERAL STYLE:
A mix of a casual, preppy, and a girl-next-door style with a rocker-goth flare.
CASUAL:
Tends to wear long-sleeved, buttoned tunics or wrap around blouses with long bell sleeves, along with wrap around 3/4 length straight skirts that are pleated and tights underneath. She also prefers to wear flat trainers with velcro straps. To complete this outfit, she has a broad studded tie-on belt or her jewelry made with wire, beads, and a few insects encased in resin.
it's too cold out, she'll wear a hooded anorak jacket or a cape scarf. She also generally carries a backpack that has buckled fasteners with a side zipper. Whether outside, or inside, she used to wear a hooded knee-length black trench coat Chandler bought her for her birthday, but hasn't worn it since his death.
When she returns to school, she just wears jeans, a tee and a hooded sweatshirt, hoping to stay out of people's attention for as much as possible. When she gets more comfortable, her old clothing and accessories slowly makes a reappearance.
SEMI-FORMAL:
Her casual outfits that she used to wear can also be considered semi-formal; however she wears ballerina flats instead of her trainers, and if it's cold, she'll wear the cape scarf.
FORMAL:
For school dances and other formal functions, she likes wrap around evening dresses with short bell sleeves, a scoop neckline with a cowl collar, and a full circle crinkle skirt.
UNIFORM:
Her hero outfit consists of a black and purple full body-suit with a hooded, elbow-length cape and an asymmetric zipper, ankle boots, and the X-men belt set at an angle.
MYERS-BRIGGS:
ENTJ - INTJ
Ambivert (E/I): | She has a balance of extrovert and introvert features, concerned with external things and objective considerations as well as concerned with their own thoughts and feelings. |
---|---|
Intuition (N): | She processes information through patterns, reading between the lines, and impressions, and value inspiration and imagination. |
Thinking (T): | She predominantly makes decisions based on facts, with the head ruling over their heart. |
Judging (J): | She lives by schedules and completing tasks one by one. |
BIG 5
OPENNESS: | Not at all open to new experiences. It was hard moving from California to Missouri. Making friends was never easy for her even in the best of circumstances, and with no friends, it was hard to make herself do anything other than visit book stores. She would prefer to stick things out than rock the boat. |
---|---|
AGREEABLENESS: | Sometimes adjusts her attitude or behavior to suit others. She would rather avoid confrontation and arguments, so will sometimes say whatever necessary in order to leave the discussion sooner, even if she doesn't believe it or disagrees with it. That being said, she chooses whether or not it would be worth it to lie or tell the truth in the long run. |
CONSCIENTIOUSNESS: | Relatively honest and hardworking. Calista works harder on some things, like school and honing her abilities, but would rather do anything else than combat training, just as she'll be forthcoming with some things, but definitely has things she would rather not talk about. |
NEUROTICISM: | Rarely ever shows their emotions. With a neglectful alcoholic for a mother, and growing up with a bully for a brother, along with school bullies, showing sadness or anger had never gotten her the results she wanted, so tried her hardest not to show people that things bothered her. If anything, a long blank unblinking stare right in the eyes usually made the average person walk away. |
MORAL ALIGNMENT TYPE:
Lawful Neutral – Neutral Good
LAWFUL NEUTRAL: | Law-abiders to a T, and they don't let the fight against evil cloud their judgement. Non-biased and believe in organization. |
---|---|
NEUTRAL GOOD: | Work with people in power and are devoted to helping others, but don't necessarily have a bias in either direction. |
PEARSON-MARR ARCHETYPE:
Regular Gal - Ruler
REGULAR GAL: | A survivor, and a bit of a cynic. Avoids situations that equate to hurting herself, and demonstrates interdependence, empathy, and realism. They have a tendency towards abandonment, betrayal, and self-betrayal, disillusionment, discrimination, and victimization. Has empathy for others, especially for those in need. |
---|---|
RULER: | Has sovereignty, responsibility and competence, seeks to provide resources, harmony, and support, and order to life. |
HOLLAND CODE:
Investigative / Thinker - Enterprising / Persuader
INVESTIGATIVE / THINKER: | Likes to observe, learn, investigate, analyze, evaluate, or solve problems. |
---|---|
ENTERPRISING / PERSUADER: | Likes to work with people, influencing, persuading, leading or managing for organizational goals or economic gain. |
ENNEAGRAM:
Helper - Enthusiast
HELPER: | Empathetic, sincere and warm-hearted, self-sacrificing and can be sentimental and a people-pleaser. |
---|---|
ENTHUSIAST: | Optimistic, versatile and spontaneous, playful, practical and can over-extend themselves, be scattered and undisciplined. |
MYTHCREANTS SIX FLAWS
ADDICTION: | She has a minor addiction to exercise. She always liked taking night or early morning walks, but after meeting Chandler, who was into cross-country, he encouraged her to jog with him. Ever since, she found it relieved some of her anxieties. |
---|---|
AVERSION: | She has a major aversion to crying babies and crying children. At a grocery store, at a movie theater, at school functions, just about anywhere there are crying children, she'll leave the room. Every time she hears it, she feels like crying along with them and is just reminded of all of the times she was told to stop crying. It can get severe enough that she begins having panic attacks. |
FEAR: | She has a neutral fear of trusting people will lead to betrayal. It's hard confiding in an alcoholic or family only for them to dismiss her, but she does occasionally, if only to test her mom. Sometimes it goes well, other times her feelings and secrets are ignored or laughed at. |
IMMORTALITY: | She has a minor belief that gambling is fine. Gambling among friends in a friendly atmosphere is fine. Gambling at casinos are also fine. People are having fun, and if they want to risk what they're willing to spend, fine. The only issue is if the person is gambling with money that isn't theirs, or are going over budget that should be used for bills or other necessities, especially if they have a family to support. |
INCOMPETENCY: | She has a neutral incapability to having self-control. As much as she keeps her emotions in check, there are just some things that irk her, that drive her crazy. She'll shout, shove the person, or her powers get out of control. |
POOR JUDGEMENT: | She has a major sense of poor judgement in being indecisive. Calista is ridiculously indecisive about even small things, like what she wants to eat or do. In a group, she'll either let others decide for her or forgo it altogether. Alone, she'll take her sweet time choosing. It's nearing the time where she would apply for colleges or take tests for community college, but she doesn't really have a clue as to what she wants to do. |
VIA CHARACTER STRENGTHS
COURAGE (STRENGTH OF HEART): | If she sees people in danger, she often just jumps in without thinking. When it comes to herself and her shortcomings, it's painful facing them, but she still does a lot of self-reflecting. After knowing Chandler intimately, him turning into a school shooter, and coming back to school only to have the remaining survivors turn on her despite her not being the shooter, and even trying to stop it, she despises the double-standard and hypocrisy. If they hadn't have bullied her and Chandler, if the teachers had actually done something more to stop them, Chandler wouldn't have had to turn into a monster. While she condemns what Chandler did, she also speaks out against bullying to the point where it gets her into more trouble. She often hides her pain, feeling that it's her own problem, and no one can help her with. Because she struggles with this, keeping commitments to meet with friends or complete goals is also a struggle. She often uses her hobbies as a way of distracting herself from her problems and feelings. Despite the tragedy, she really does try to find the light in the darkness and claw her way out. She believes the world is only as dark as you want to keep it, and she doesn't want to stay in the dark. |
---|---|
HUMANITY (STRENGTH OF OTHERS): | With her history, it definietly grates on her sense of kindness, so she reserves that kindness for people whom she truly thinks deserves it, and there aren't very many people she finds deserving. Despite feeling ignored, all she really wants is love, so she can be desparate for it. She loves her mother despiter her many faults and addictions, so often thinks it's her fault her mother chooses a beer over coming to her award ceremony. To the people who she believes deserves her kindness, she doesn't hold it back, often helping them and doing favors for them. She finds it crippling losing friends since she has trouble making them in the first place, so she does what she can to keep the friends she's managed to make. She has a good intuition about others by their body language, how they answer questions, and whom else they associate with. She's practically memorized an etiquette book to politely avoid those she doesn't want to associate with, but she also tends to force these ideals onto others, even if it clearly isn't working. She did report the bullies. She also recorded what had happened, whom she reported to and what they said and did. She wanted to believe she and Chandler had done the right thing, even if it didn't give them the results they wanted. She didn't want to resort to Chandler's fight back policy, but she guessed he got tired of waiting for results. |
JUSTICE (STRENGTH OF COMMUNITY): | Just because someone experienced or lived through something awful, it doesn't give them the right to take it out on other people. Callie has a stronger justice reasoning than care reasoning, so trying to see from another's perspective is challenging for her. While she may have trouble figuring out the steps and list of tasks in order to achieve a goal, she's able to keep up her motivation, and she tries her hardest to get other people motivated to the point of annoyance. This is particularly true when it comes to goals she's passionate about; however she would be better not as a leader, but a step down with the rest of the group, able to follow direction and trust her team to finish their part. |
TEMPERANCE (STRENGTH OF SELF): | Callie may forgive, and she may try to restore friendships and relationships, but she doesn't easily forget. She knows herself, and she knows herself well, knowing her limitations, knowing if she'll be able to keep promises, and achieve accomplishments. She doesn't present herself as anything but, which can be offputting or snobbish to others. Because of this, she's able to plan short-term and long-term goals, but she doesn't tend to challenge herself. Some even find her ability to stay calm and focused under stressful situations unnerving, but because of this over-bearing sense of self-regulation, she's able to complete whatever it is she sets her mind to. |
TRANSCENDENCE (STRENGTH OF SPIRIT): | She has an extreme appreciation of physical beauty, finding it in everything, of virtual goodness in other people, wanting to improve herself and self-image, and has an extreme appreciation of skills and talents, which makes her want to improve, and regularly shows gratitude to others without needing a reason to. Despite everything, she always has hope and always works in order to better her situation or life, although her sense of humor could use some work. The troubling thing with Callie under transcendence, is that she has a very weak sense of spirituality, which means that no matter what she tells herself, how much she tries, and despite having so much hope, and works so hard, she has so much doubt that it ever will get better. She has no way of providing herself any comfort, and that's why she's so dependent on friends. |
WISDOM (STRENGTH OF HEAD): | Callie isn't a creative person, nor is she a curious person--she's a homebody who, while does enjoy doing artistic things and reading about specific topics, isn't in anyway new or unique. She'll cover songs on the guitar and read about other people's theories or witchcraft practices, but doesn't come up with her own ideas very often. That being said, if someone shares an opposing view, or corrects her inaccuracies, she will look into it further than just about anyone would be willing to research it so she fully understands and doesn't make that mistake again. She does like learning new things if she sees benefits to learning them, but is, for the most part, content to rereading the few books she owns. Part of the reason Callies is so indecisive is because she thinks about multiple facets and different perspectives, but when she does make a decision and gives advice, they are no doubt thoughtful. |
PHILOSOPHIES:
EPIPHENOMENALISM - ABSURDISM - PROTECTIVISM
Callie is very aware that her mental state has physical effects regarding her body or her abilities, so she's been trying to learn how to better manage her stress and depression. She also believes that no matter what topic or subject, her knowledge will always be limited to her perspective, and also thinks that humans, animals, lives in general, are born without purpose in a chaotic universe.
HOBBIES:
Studying the occult, scrapbooking, canning food or making small treats, jewelry making, and playing the guitar.
FAMILY:
CARINA HORN: | This is a woman who should have stuck with having one child because she couldn't balance her time with them evenly, which had a negative impact on both. Because Ody, Callie's brother, constantly got himself in and out of trouble, Carina spent most of her time tending to him and leaving Callie to her own devices, and when she was home, she would drink. Just about the only compliment Callie would get from her was how such a good child she was because she never did anything. So Callie continued to not do anything, not even asking for them to spend a day together without interruption. With her focus on Ody, she's missed the fact that Callie has mutant abilities, but because she wants normalcy in her day to day life, she has missed cues that Ody also has mutant abilities. |
---|---|
(Mother) | |
ODALIS "ODY" "HALOS" ALESIO: | Callie and Ody errupt into arguments constantly, so when Ody is in a room, Callie leaves it. When Callie and Carina watch a show together? Ody interrupts it, so Callie gives up and leaves. When Ody went to juvie for trespassing and assault, Callie thought she and her mom would finally spend time together, but her mom focused on legal action and tending to the son who wasn't at home nor was even in the state. Carina moved out of the state after Ody was transferred to a different detention center to be closer to him and sent Callie to live with her aunt and uncle. In her mind, this was an act of mercy, but this isn't entirely Carina's fault because she's being influenced by Ody's abilities, which can be addictive to where there are withdrawal symptoms. Because Callie's abilities have a counter-effect, Ody's figured out she has powers, but he's afraid of what they could be since she's probably the only person who could stop him. |
(Brother) | |
CILLA MACNEIL nee HORN, DARIUS MACNEIL, and ZILLA MACNEIL: | This is a busy-body family that has rules, but is fair and open, which Callie appreciates, but finds it difficult to confide in them. Cilla always asks Callie if her mom has called her, but gets furious when Callie says no. On the one hand, it does hurt her that her mom doesn't call, but Callie doesn't call her either, so. . . . Cilla swears that this isn't like her sister to be this way and doesn't know what to do. Cilla and Darius try to be more parental figures to Callie, but Callie's pretty emotionally unresponsive, which they assume that she's just socially awkward and shy. Callie tries very hard to being a “good girl" and not do anything to get on their bad side, which Zilla's attitude often garners. There's lots of yelling and shouting in the house. She and Zilla get along, but Zilla finds her rather boring that she's not super girly. Cilla and Zilla take her shopping to try and get her out of her shell, but Darius doesn't try to push it, saying she'll open up when she's ready. Callie helped Darius with his landscaping job before getting a part-time job at a grocery store, so they have some conversation, but it's usually just small talk. The family has noticed some odd things with Callie, such as her choosing to sit in a dark room or sitting in her closet, but don't realize she's a mutant. By the time Callie has moved in with them, she has a good handle on the abilities she has, so she knows how to hide it. |
(Maternal Aunt, Uncle, and Cousin) | |
EMMANUEL ALESIO: | Emmanuel always wanted a family, but what he really wanted were prodigees with powers. He was overjoyed when Callie was born because she had natural talent, reacting to his powers, but he didn't pay any mind to Ody when he didn't seem to be showing any signs. This caused a huge argument between him and Carina which resulted in them splitting up. This angered Emmanuel, and he beat her, taking Callie. Carina filed a report, and the authorities quickly found them. Emmanuel went to jail with a restraining order and Carina moved aay. Callie was four when they split up, so she has very vague recollections of what her father looks like, but doesn't remember what he was like. Carina refuses to tell the siblings about their father, and Ody has no memory of him. |
(Father) |
FRIENDS:
ANA BLECHER and RUDOLF "RUDDY" LANE: | They became Callie's friends through Chandler. She was the occult researcher for their band, and Ana loved the jewelry Callie made. While Callie did open up to them, Ana and Ruddy could tell Callie was way more open with Chandler. They let it go, but after Chandler started to become more erratic, they questioned whether that was due to Callie (and the occult) taking Chandler away from them little by little. |
---|
RIVALS:
ODALIS: | See above, but, to add, this rivalry ramps up when he joins Xavier's institute and adopts “Halos" as his moniker. The institute was not going to be a place she would give up so easily, so starts to fight back. |
---|
ENEMIES:
MARTIN GEORGIEV (deceased): | A local trouble-maker that Chandler had long ditched, but after returning home from juvie, and becoming his neighbor again, Callie noticed Chandler changing, adopting the fight back mentality, but she had no idea how far they would go. |
---|
CRUSH:
CHANDLER "CHANCE" NAGEL (deceased): | They met knew of each other at school, but didn't meet and get to know each other until they worked at the same grocery store. Sparks flew when they found a common interest in the occult in this bible belt obsessed city. Eventually, Callie showed him her abilities, and it blew his mind seeing intricate shadow shapes on the wall, saying she could really freak some kids out with that. Relieved, she showed him more. Chandler wanted her to use her powers on the kids who picked on them, but she refused. Society's views on mutants weren't exactly positive, and she didn't want her aunt and uncle to know, risking that they would kick her out. He understood, but it seemed to frustrate him more. Intelligent and sweet, he became more and more on edge at school after reuniting with Martin. |

LOVE ATTITUDE STYLE:
Storge - Agape
STORGE: | Friendship Love |
---|---|
AGAPE: | Selfless Love |
LOVE LANGUAGE:
Primary - Secondary
PRIMARY: | |
---|---|
SECONDARY: |
ATTACHMENT STYLE:
Anxious/ Preoccupied: Is self-critical and insecure. Seeks approval and reassurance from others, yet it never relieves her self-doubt. Constantly feels she's going to be rejected, and acts clingy and overly dependent with her partner. She turns against herself and is emotionally desperate in her relationships.
SKILLS:
Umbrakinesis.
Callie always knew she had abilities, imagining shadow shapes on the walls, but after freaking out her mother, she didn't ever show her mother that it was her that did that. But she never stopped fully. Before the school shooting, Callie was able to teach herself to dim lights, create shadow shapes on the walls, create an aura of darkness around herself, and create 3D intangible shapes of shadows.
After, when she was struggling to keep her control of her abilities, she practiced constantly. By the time she returned to school, she became hyper aware of all shadows in the day and night, and developed the ability to “see" in the dark, which means she can sense where people and objects are in the dark. She also began creating solid objects out of shadows, depending on how much shadow there is and how dark those shadows are. This is the stage she's at in the beginning of the story. With time, practice, and guidance, she'll learn more.
It's worth to note that if she's not in the right mental or emotional capacity, such as if she's angry or panicking, she can become lost in the darkness and could pull others in along with her.
Part of her abilities are disrupting photons in the magnetic field, so this is why Magneto hasn't been aware of her.
GOALS, MOTIVATIONS AND OBSTACLES
POSITIVE EXTERNAL: | Perhaps no one is born with a predetermined purpose in life, but Callie wants to find one, to achieve her highest potential, which is motivated by obedience from her family who want more for her, but her insecurities and self doubt gets in the way. |
---|---|
NEGATIVE EXTERNAL: | Calista's negative external goal is to find love and belonging, either in romance, family or friendship, even at the cost of herself or others, which is motivated by the lack of love she feels, but the fear of failing gets in the way, so she doesn't tend to try. I want Callie to learn a different lesson, or achieve a different goal. |
POSITIVE INTERNAL: | Calista's internal external goal is to find safety and security, which is motivated by the loss of Chandler, whom was that for her, so Callie doesn't know how to replace it. I don't want that for Callie, or at least I don't want her to find safety and security from other people. |
NEGATIVE INTERNAL: | Calista's negative internal goal is the same as above, but is motivated by dishonor, by the guilt that she couldn't save Chandler and this guilt eats at her. |
BACKSTORY:
I pretty much covered Callie's early history in the family section, and some of her history after moving to Missouri with her aunt and uncle, so I'll just fill in some gaps and bullet-point a timeline.
Before her first birthday, Callie showed subtle signs that she had abilities when Emmanuel couldn't hide an almond from her using his own cloaking abilities.
Her brother was born the next year, but didn't show any signs. A couple of years later, Emmanuel beat Carina and took Callie, resulting him being caught and put in jail, and Carina, Callie and Ody moving.
Carina did her best to raise them both, but became more and more attached to Ody, and Ody, feeling empowered, did everything he could to make sure Callie knew this.
Ody (14) snuck over to his girlfriend's (of the same age) and wanted to have sex, but was caught before that could happen. Her father tried to throw him out, but Ody blinded him with his lumokinesis and beat him up. He was sent to a detention center and was then transferred out of state. Carina moved to that state, and “not wanting Callie to keep moving around in case Ody was transferred again" sent her to live with her aunt and uncle.
A few months of getting to know her extended family and going to school, she got a part time job stocking at a grocery store and officially met Chandler who she recognized at school.
Six months later, they come to find out they have common interests and became friends, and also became friends with Ana and Ruddy. She hears them play as a band and becomes a fan. Chandler even tries to teach her guitar on the side. They become an official couple not too long after that.
Meanwhile, people in general avoid her because she is freakishly quiet and wears dead insencts as jewelry. It gets worse when the geeky rock band she becomes friends with gets more and more “satanic" in nature. Chandler had his own bullies that teamed up with hers for his own “outcasty" ways. Harmless and annoying mostly, and Callie's unblinking stare usually repelled them, but after a year it got worse. There was vandalism, theft, etc.
After about a year of dating, Callie showed him her powers. It freaked him out, but he also thought it was cool as fuck. She showed him everything she knew how to do and played with her powers more often.
Professor Xavier found her, but, worried that her aunt and uncle may not know, approached her first after her shift at work. He told her he knew of her powers and encouraged her to come to his school so she could learn how to better hone her skills, giving her a pamphlet. Callie thought about this for a few days, but declined his offer, saying she's got a handle on her abilities to which she would rather learn at her own pace, but she also doesn't want to move again, and is happy with her aunt, uncle, cousin and friends. Xavier accepted this, but gave her some text books that he thought may help her.
What she didn't mention was that she was also worried about Chandler whom was hanging out with Martin more and more. She even used her ability to spy on them talking shit about students, wishing how bad things would happen to them. Callie confronted Chandler about it, saying she's worried, but Chandler, who was angry at her for spying on him, yelled, saying it was all just talk. He apologized to her the next morning, knowing she was just worried, and Callie tries to let it go.
Towards the end of that school year, Callie's locker was broken into, and a box of live bugs were put in there. It startled Callie, causing her to bump into Chandler, making him drop and break his guitar. Chandler had enough and went home, telling Callie she should do the same. She didn't. She cleaned out her locker and went to class as normal. Shots rang out, chilling her to the core, and she didn't even think it could be Chandler until she overheard a student say it was. Callie turned back to find Chandler, hoping to stop him. Martin was with him, encouraging the carnage while Chandler looked blank and cold. She got between them and their next victim, pleading for him to stop, that this was just making it worse. She tried reaching for Chandler's gun with one hand, and the side of his face with the other. Martin told her to get out of the way, but she didn't, and he saw a shadow in the palm of her hand reaching out to Chandler. Freaked, Martin shot her in the chest, and Callie's power barely shielded her heart and major organs (with them being in her body cavity filled with darkness, but it gave her enough of a shock that she collapsed and hit her head on a table). Shocked at what Martin did, Chandler killed Martin, and then killed himself.
Callie woke up in the hospital and was told that it was a miracle she survived--the bullet entering, but it didn't seem to create any sort of path throughout the body, and then exited her body through the other side, as if it teleported. Then she was told what had happened at school, and Chandler dying. Devastated, darkness filled her tears which freaked everyone. Doctors thought it was blood, but it was dismissed as a one-time thing caused by stress. While recovering, she had trouble controlling her abilities and asked Zilla to get her the books Professor Xavier gave her, hoping it would help. To Zilla, those books were just another one of the weird new-agey metaphysical books and didn't pay it any mind. A little meditation would actually be a good thing at this point. Through medication, in-hospital therapists, and meditation, she regained her control and intensely focused to improve her abilities, if only so she didn't have to think about school, the shooting, or Chandler.
She returns home with her aunt and uncle not too long after, and dreads going back to school, to face her demons. She tried calling Ana and Ruddy, but neither picked up the phone.
She never got an invitation to Chandler's funeral, and didn't realize there was one until she overheard Cilla venting to Darius about it. Did people really think she was in on Chandler's plan? That she knew? She didn't, and that's what she told the police whom also found no proof that she was involved.
Professor Xavier had called her home and Callie had considered that a change of scenery and the chance of putting what happened to her in the past would be good, but she declined it. She has a handle on her abilities again, so there's no need. She didn't want to move and she has friends. She hoped, anyway.
She began reading about mass shootings and school shootings, wanting to understand what happened and why it had to happen. Cilla and Darius caught her and began to monitor her internet activity closely. She knows they wanted her to get past this and heal, but it made her feel like a criminal. That what she was doing was wrong and abnormal.
